OUGD602 | Studio Brief 01 - General Research

I have been searching creative websites in order to find advice on creating a strong personal brand. An article on Creative Bloq [source here] 'Boost your personal brand'. Useful findings from this included
  • Your brand is not about you! Its about your audience.
  • You need to be seen and heard
  • Network!
Research was also conducted into portfolio production and advice. An article on creative website 'Its Nice That' collates advice on graduates creating portfolios[source here]. Findings from this included -

  • Generally agreed that less is more. You will be judged from your worst piece of work so ensure you are confident with every piece. 'Don't put in work that you aren't proud of'.
  • Take out anything that isn't fantastic
  • Tailor to your audience and show what you are interested in. With this in mind, my interests (packaging, branding, editorial and illustration) will be included, refined depending on the job application or studio.
  • Ensure you can talk about it - I do feel that I can talk strongly and confidently about a lot of my work so hopefully this won't be an issue.
  • Presentation - pay attention to detail and ensure it is clean and tidy. Bring physical work.
  • Label it clearly in case it goes missing! - something I hadn't thought of.
General advice was also found about personal branding as a designer [source here]. This found -
  • Create a vision
  • Who are you targeting? You can't please everyone
  • Use high quality images - people will form an opinion off these.
